I've been steadily working on the MTSU Veteran Center mural and am now in the studio doing an acrylic painting of the vintage Uncle Sam poster. This has been a fun project. It's also been cool to see how differently I use the acrylic media after not using it for so long. I still struggle with getting my paint the way I want it, but I modeled much better than I expected. I'm sure I've improved the way I look at shapes and colors by doing my ink transfer process. It's such a precise and intimate way of painting a subject. If all goes well I might have Uncle Sam complete this week. If not, I'll have to finish it up after my trip.
This is where things get fun! I'm heading West to the Grand Canyon. This will be a little research trip for a new body of work I've been wanting to do. I've been working through several ideas of using more nature images in my paintings, but haven't allowed myself to really push the limits of my process. I'm hoping to gain two things from tis trip; lot of cool images to work from and time to unplug so I can clear my mind and open it to new and more creative possibilities. I'm sure there will be a little fun along the way:) In peroration for the trip we've been taking weekend hikes around middle TN and I've been learning how to use my GoPro camera. I didn't realize how complicated that thing could be. I'm not looking to get a lot of video, but it is cool that the GoPro allows you to take still hots from your video. My main reason for the GoPro was how durable it is. We will be in some pretty dusty and wet situations and I didn't want to goof up my other camera and be without any photos and video. Follow me on social media and maybe you'll get first look at some of my adventures. Of the two weeks I'm gone atlas 8 days of it I'll be without any cellular connection. That will be so nice!
the photos below are just a couple of Tracy, Smokey, and me hiking the South Cumberland. I've taken a lot of video and photos with the GoPro and am getting better, but I've deleted a lot more than I've kept:)
next time you hear from me on this blog will be after my trip. I promise to come back with lots of exciting photos.
Talk to you then!
