It's been fun out in the garage making things out of several materials I've been collecting. Every time I switch gears like that I have a new perspective on my work. Now it's time to get busy on my large commission of (60) 8x10 paintings. These are the ones I wrote about a while back. The contract has been signed and the composition has been designed. While this will be a little tedious, creating the same image several times, it will allow time for me to improve my techniques and time to think of new ideas for my other projects. So many great things happening. Though I will be really busy, I'll still make time to write about my progress and post images of things I feel need sharing:-) Thanks for reading. RLP
Wax-Big news with my Encaustic works; I was informed that I will be one of the featured Artist at Nashville International Airport (BNA) next year. This is such an honor! My work will be seen from people from all over the world. Another bonus to this event, I have over a year to make the work. That's good because I have some pretty grand ideas in mind. I want this to be some of my best work to date.
Wood- I've made good use of the warmer weather by getting in the garage and working on my to do list. While waiting for paint to dry or time to get to the store for more supplies, I worked through a few ideas and created several small to medium size works in wood. So far I'm really enjoying these new creations. I think I mentioned a little about this in my last blog post. Stay tuned and I'll get some new images up on the site.
Paper- I can't forget to mention that the NCC's founding members (now called "4") have a show coming up at Turnip Green Re-use, and one at Fido coffee. We've been busy creating and collaborating on new work for the last 6 months. It's fun to see how our work is starting to get more and more cohesive. I'll make sure and get all the show info on my events page.
Metal- It's been garage time for me this past week! As I go down the list of things I need to do I've got to the one that says, build a sculpture for the new "Phat Bites" location in Donelson. (Thanks to Julie for supporting local artist) It's location is in the old Ford Dealership's oil changing bays on Lebanon Pike. I was hoping to have it done before they opened, but I was only a few days late. This is a new one for me. I went to a "Pick a Part" location for the first time. Pretty cool as an artist. I was a little overwhelmed by all the different parts, shapes and colors. The things I wanted most were the things that would never be used again for their original purpose. One of my favorites was a fender from a Yellow Taxi, and a close second was a trunk hood that was in the aisle and had been run over until it was completely flat. It was blue, with lots of character marks:) I may be going back to Pick A Part, especially now that I know what things to look for. Just what I need....Another Medium!
Here is where I share my thoughts about different things: my art, process, shows, inspirations, and whatever else I think is worth sharing. Please feel free to give feedback.
