I can't believe I let over a month get by without posting in my blog. I should do better than that! I've been busy, no doubt. Lots of great things going on this summer. New paintings, assemblages, and I'm painting a mural later this summer.
Right now it's way too hot to work in the garage, but the ac in the studio works well. So I'm working on a large acrylic painting this week. Exploring my architectural compositions. I've collected so many photos from different buildings and bridges. I just love how things come together. Not just in the way things happen in life, but how structures are built. I like the angles, openings, and shadows created from materials. When I take photos of a structure, I look for smaller areas that catch my eye. Then I find the most dramatic of those taken, draw them in black and white, and then use them in a painting or a sculpture/ assemblage.
Another thing I've been working on is a new technique with my wax process. I've started playing with graphite powder on top of the beeswax. I really like the shiny metallic look it gives the wax. above is a photo of one of my experimental paintings. This one also has some white oil paint, that was put down in the first layer of wax. I've noticed the extra layers of wax adds many more options for details. Fun stuff! You can see more of these experiments on my Facebook page. The link is on the home screen.
Well I better get to work. I'll be back soon!
Here is where I share my thoughts about different things: my art, process, shows, inspirations, and whatever else I think is worth sharing. Please feel free to give feedback.
