"Insectables"
"The Insectables" are a series of furniture pieces that include; old end tables with altered legs and mismatched parts, which makes them look morphed and as if they could walk. They are presented to the viewer with a creepy yet, comical presence. Built from found furniture, the materials play an important role in helping me envision each new piece. As with all found objects, there are unique scars, discolorations, and smells. These are the things that help me re-live my past experiences and tap into my childlike imagination.
Artist Statement
My creations are fragments of dreams, memories, and/or irrational thoughts. I have collected these fragments in sketchbooks and journals for several years. While these simple drawings or short stories mean little to others, in my mind they reflect my life’s experiences. To share these experiences I simplify or combine the fragments and use them in my paintings and sculptures. It is the viewer that takes these subjects and turns them into the characters of their own narrative.
